While this smelled wonderful while it ws cooking, we really didn't care for it. It was missing salt and adding it at the table seemed to help a little bit, but it still didn't change how we felt about it. There really wasn't much of a Chinese element other than the 5-spice powder which seemed to be a bit over-powering.

I was a bit concerned that the amount of 5-spice was going to be too much for my family's tastes. But as a rule in contest recipes I try to follow as closely as possible. We all agreed that we didn't recognize chinese flavor in this dish as the anise in the 5-spice completely overpowered the other ingredients. The meat was nice & tender & we may try this one again in the future but will exchange the 5-spice for some fresh garlic & other seasonings. Good luck!
