Chili Tots Casserole

Recipe #143773 | 50 min | 15 min prep | add private note

There's something about the combo of these two fast food favorites. However, when you're scraping up pennies to afford rent, eating out isn't an option. This dish is affordable and great because you can make two and freeze one. Also, you can make this a Chili dog and tots casserole by adding bite-sized hot dog pieces to the chili and serving with buns.

2 casseroles (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (optional)

  • 2 (15 ounce) cans chili without beans
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 (32 ounce) bag tater tots

Directions

  1. 1
    Cook the beef and drain.
  2. 2
Stir in the chili and heat through.
  3. 3
Pour into 2 8" sprayed square baking dishes.
  4. 4
Sprinkle with the cheese and top with the tater tots.
  5. 5
Cover and freeze one casserole for up to three months.
  6. 6
Cover and bake the remaining casserole at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until heated through.
  7. 7
To use the frozen casserole: Remove from the freezer 30 minutes before baking (do not thaw). Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 hrs or until heated through.

YUCK! So bland! Did not like it at all. My 14 month old nephew even got angry when I tried to feed it to him. And he likes everything.

This has to be one of the easiest and best one dish meals ever. I made one casserole in a 13x9 inch pan that fed 5 hungry adults, in the end they were fighting over the last serving. This is perfect for weeknights when everyone is too tired to cook, but wants a hot meal. In memory of Amy-God Bless!

I have to tell you I made this yesterday and hoped we would have some for leftovers.. Our oldest came in last night and there went my wish, So I made another batch today and my girlfriend and her daughter came over and wanted the recipe. My whole family absolutely loved this. I used two bags of cheddar cheese but next time want to try it with mexican cheese. This is a family pleaser that is fast easy and tastes great. Thank you for another hit.. faith58

Threw this together one night as it was too hot to deal with anything, and was surprised at the taste. Very good to make when you don't want to get too caught up in the kitchen. Thanks.
