I found this recipe in my Great Grandmothers Recipe Box, per a recipe request.
3 dozen cookies (or so)
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 pinch salt
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 (10 ounce) jar maraschino cherries, drained and chopped rough
Directions

Pre heat oven to 375 and grease well cookie sheets.2
Combine butter, sugar, vanilla, salt and flour.3
Will be stiff.4
Stir in chopped cherries.5
Form into balls and place on sheets 2 inches apart.6
Bake for 15 minutes, DO NOT LET BROWN.

Well, this is Peeerrrfect little cherry cookies! I don't get why people are suggesting icing and chocolate topping though. It's sweet enough I say. 2 inches is quite unnecessary, by the way, 1 inch would be fine. Great just the way it is.

Different! That says a lot when it comes to the holiday cookie tray. Super easy to put together - made as written. I think a drop of red food coloring,if you are not opposed to it, would enhance the appearance. Perfect level of sweetness for us.

These were great cookies, and very festive looking on my Christmas goody trays! The others were right-- not too sweet. I like sweet, so I also made a glaze with the cherry juice and powdered sugar, and sprinkled them with red crystal sugar while the glaze was still wet. Very easy and quick to prepare, as well! Thanks Di!
