Rotini pasta may be used in place of penne, prep time does not include cooking the pasta --- if desired sprinkle 1-2 cups grated cheddar cheese on the last 3 minutes of baking time --- this is very good!

Directions

  1. 1
Set oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. 2
    Grease a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.

  7. 7
Add in flour and mix continously for 2 minutes.
  8. 8
Slowly add in the cream and 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese; cook stirring over medium-low heat until bubbly.
  9. 9
Reduce heat to low and stir in the cheddar cheese until completely melted.

Just Okay, I thought it would be cheesier with all the cheese in the recipe. Made a lot, we are a family of 3 and nobody had seconds. Hope it freezes okay!

YUM! I decided not to bake this, both because I prefer stove top mac and cheese and because I was running short on time, and it turned out delicious. The flavor is very nice and more complex that the usual mac and cheese, especially with a nice aged cheddar. I also took a cue from CulinaryExplorer's pic and added some peas, which turned out to be an excellent addition. Thank you for posting!

Pretty good. I will a different ham next time as I used Black Forest this time and was not impressed. I thought the sauce was thicker then necessary but I might just cut back on the amount of pasta used next time. DH liked it a lot so that's a plus 'cause he's not a big mac/cheese fan. Will make this one again for sure.
