Cheesy French Bread

Recipe #135831 | 35 min | 10 min prep | add private note

This is a little different from the usual Garlic French breads I've tried. I served this to my daughter for her 28th birthday dinner tonight. I changed the original recipe up some to fit our taste buds. Original recipe from Paula Deen's The Lady & Sons, Too cookbook.

SERVES 6 -8 , 1 loaf (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese or Mexican blend cheese (will probably work with any of your favorite cheeses)
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons italian seasoning (or 1 1/2 teaspoons dried parsley flakes)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (feel free to use cloves of fresh garlic minced)
  • 1 dash ground red pepper
  • French bread, cut in half lengthwise

Directions

  1. 1
Combine the cheese, mayonnaise, Italian Seasoning, garlic powder and ground red pepper.
  2. 2
Spread this mixture on the cut sides of the bread.
  3. 3
Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes, or until the topping is melted and lightly browned.

This is some really good stuff. I had a wee bit more of each spice, but otherwise follow the recipe.

My youngest DS ate almost half of this recipe!!! This was easy and very good. I used light old cheddar and light mayo! Made for Potluck Tag. Thanks!

I had a friend who served this bread to me a long time ago and I have been making it ever since. It is sooooo yummy! We even make it a little more sinful (or at least her recipe was) she puts a half a stick of butter (the real stuff) in the mix.
