Cheesy Bacon Burgers

Southern Living; given to me by my MIL. Husband's favorite.

SERVES 8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 cup catsup

  • 1 (4 ounce) jar sliced mushrooms, drained
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 hamburger buns

Directions

  1. 1
    Fry bacon in large skillet; crumble and set aside.
  2. 2
    Drain off all bacon drippings.
  3. 3
    Add ground beef to skillet and brown; drain off fat.
  4. 4
    Sir in bacon, onion, catsup, mushrooms, salt and pepper.

    Cover and simmer 10-15 minutes.
  6. 6
    Sprinkle cheese over top, and heat until cheese melts.
  7. 7
    To serve, spoon over split hamburger buns.

This gets a full 5 stars from me. Lovely way to serve a burger. The meat mixture is spread over the whole bun instead of just in a pattie. I used fresh mushroomsand cut the recipe back to one serving - No propblem doing it.. Served with Oven Fries and sliced tomato & lettuce . Great Saturday night burger

    I have reviewed this same recipe 2 times ... it is an identical recipe to the other one I rated... so to be fair... this is REALLY amazingly good, I urge you to try it!
