My father made this recipe up when we really didn't have any other food in the house, its cheap, and easy to make. The kids will love it.

SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

The slow way

  • 4 large skinned and boiled potatoes
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 2 cups shredded or sliced cheddar cheese

The fast way

Directions

  1. 1
Fry the beef in a nonstick pan, and when finished, drain off the fat and set it aside Place the potatoes in a medium sized mixing bowl, mash them, or if using the instant, follow the directions on the box.
  2. 2
Add the milk and whip them until creamy.
  3. 3
In a medium sized baking dish, place a layer of the whipped potatoes about an inch thick. Add all of the ground beef for the second layer. Add half of the cheese for the third layer. Use the rest of the potatoes for the fourth layer. Add the rest of the cheese on top.
  4. 4
Place in oven and bake at 350°F until the cheese is melted and you see part of the potatoes golden brown.
  5. 5
Let it set for five minutes and then serve.

This was great! I added some frozen veggies into the ground beef mix and used the instant mash potato. Everyone was looking for seconds! A great, easy, cheap and tasty recipe that will be reappearing at our dining table very soon. Thanks for posting xxx

This was an easy and delicious recipe. I made the mashed potatoes with the skins on so it was very little work. We'll definitely have this again!

This was so easy! I added a can of ranch beans (drained) in with the beef. My husband and 18 month old daughter loved it. Will definitely make again!
