Brazilian national drink. You can change limes for kiwis, pineapple or passion fruit, or mix them, but you may cut on sugar.

SERVES 1 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Cut the lime in quarters then cut them crosswise.
  2. 2
Put lime and sugar in a tall glass and mash with a pestle (or a wood spoon, rolling pin, etc).
  3. 3
Add the same amount of liquor on the lime juice and stirr.
  4. 4
    Add ice and stirr again.
  5. 5
Here in Brazil, the guys that sell it at the beach put another glass upside down over it, hold both with one hand and shake.
  6. 6
    Great trick at parties.

Excellent recipe! Add a spoon of brown sugar to give the cocktail an extra flavour boost, or try some fruity caipirinha alternatives.

Most Brasilians that do not drink Pinga drink this with Vodka. I recomend it over the others. Also crush strawberries, grapes, mango and berries.... add sugar and enjoy! Remember to eat the fruit at the bottom.... a specility of Club Mercedes in Sao Paulo....

the ratios here have a little less lime and sugar to the cachaca. That's pretty nice. Recommend Turbinado sugar, which you can get a good deal on at Trader Joe's.

Delightful drink! I made this with cachaca & lime and loved it, but my husband thought the lime was too much. Can you belive it?! I made another round with one lime and half an orange (for 2 drinks) and it was deeelicious. It's important to get the sugar to dissolve before pouring out the drink (I got a little ahead of myself once...). Thanks for the great technique!
