Butterhorn Bread Machine Rolls

Recipe #117322 | 25 min | 10 min prep | add private note

Apr 15, 2005

My daughter's number one favorite food I make are these soft, buttery rolls from "Bread Machine Magic." I have made these a million times and could do it in my sleep. The dough is a cinch to work with and they turn out exactly the same every time. Leftovers are great with jam. This bread dough makes a delicious kid-friendly pizza crust, too. Cooking time does not reflect the rising time. Recipe from "Bread Machine Magic."

24 rolls (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teasoon salt
  • 1/3 cup oil (can use shortening, too)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast (or what your bread machine uses)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons melted butter

Directions

  1. 1
Place all ingredients except melted butter in pan.
  2. 2
Select Dough Only setting and press start.
  3. 3
When dough has risen long enough, the machine will beep.
  4. 4
    Remove dough from pan.
  5. 5
Divide dough into 3 equal balls.
  6. 6
Roll out each ball, one at a time, into a 9 inch circle (don't worry if you can't get it exactly 9 inch).
  7. 7
(Note: I always start rolling my dough and let it rest for awhile and resume rolling. The resting helps relax the dough).
  8. 8
With pizza cutter (works great!)or sharp knife, divide each circle into 8 wedges, as if cutting a pizza.
  9. 9
Starting at the wide end, roll up each wedge toward the point.
  10. 10
Cover and place in a warm oven (turn oven onto warm setting for 2 minutes and turn off, to make a good environment for dough).
  11. 11
Let rise for 30 to 40 minutes until doubled.
  12. 12
Remove sheet from oven to preheat oven!
  13. 13
    Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  14. 14
Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.
  15. 15
    Remove from oven.
  16. 16
Brush rolls lightly with melted butter.

This recipe was a series of firsts for me: First Time using an Online Recipe, First Time using the dough cycle on my bread machine. It turned out exactly how it was described, and there were no surprises - except how good they were! All of the rolls disappeared in an hour - no leftovers for me!! I intend on using the dough again, this time for a stuffed crust pizza dough Thank you.

YUMMM!!! Absolutely fabulous rolls!! I made these last night and they were very popular with my family. The dough is easy to work with and the instructions you gave with the recipe were very easy to follow. They rose beautifully and baked in 11 minutes. I will be making these often!! Thanks so much Roxygirl.

I actually made these at Easter but wanted to try then again as the first time mine also didnt rise like I thought they should. I just made them again this weekend and used 1/2 bread flour and 1/2 regular flour and it worked like a dream. These are very tender and slightly sweet and they freeze beautifully. Thanks for a great recipe Roxy!

These rolls have a wonderful taste, its just they didn't rise for me as good as I thought they would. I don't know if it was my bread machine or if I done something wrong while putting the mix in the pan. My bread machine was making weird noises so I am thinking it didn't go thru the process good. I will be giving this recipe a try again. They are really tasty. Thanks for sharing your recipe!
