Broiled Banana Crisp

Recipe #153178 | 15 min | 12 min prep | add private note

A truly unique sweet treat that apple crisp lovers should really give a try! NOTE: this recipe is specifically created for individual ramekins/portions...Any attempt to make it into a 'one pan' dish may alter the recipe beyond the intended results...Alter this recipe at your own risk, LOL!

SERVES 4 , 1 batch (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Peel bananas and drizzle with lemon juice; then cut in half lengthwise and then again across.
  2. 2
You should have a total of 16 quarters of banana.
  3. 3
Then distribute these banana quarters equally among 4 broil-and-serve dishes.
  4. 4
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, uncooked oats, flour and allspice -- NOTE: Allspice tastes like a combination of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves, so you could probably substitute a mixture of those three if you're out of allspice or go with just cinnamon.
  5. 5
Cut butter into the mixture until it resembles crumbs and then spread the crumbs equally over all the bananas.
  6. 6
Turn on your broiler and place these dishes under the broiler, 5" from the heat source and broil 3 min; the idea is to brown it and warm it at the same time.
  7. 7
Watch carefully, don't burn it or yourself!
  8. 8
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

I followed another reviewer's suggestion and baked mine at 350 for 15 mins - perfect! Followed the ingredients exactly, making a little bit more topping mixture. I think the oven worked just fine for this and avoided the possible burnt sugar that might have been caused by broiling. This was perfectly balanced, creamy, sweet, crunchy. Definitely let this cool off a minute before diving in, or you will burn your mouth on the hot bananas! This is a keeper, thanks for posting Cookin'withGas.

Very good! I think next time I might bake it to get the bananas heated through. But the crispy topping with warm bananas was delicious.

Yum, this is gooood!! I made these in 1 cup ramkin cups so cut my banana into slightly smaller pieces. I loved the slightly spicy crumble topping over the sweet bananas. I wansn't sure if I would like hot bananas but it turns out they were delicious. They taste almost creamy. I did decrease the sugar slightly in the topping as well as the margarine and added a bit of cinnamon as well. The recipe didn't say where to add the lemon juice, so I assumed it was to be drizzled over the bananas. Great recipe and visually appealing. Thanks!!!

My family said this is definitely a five star treat. I doubled up on the toping mix. Because I had something else in the oven, I baked this for about 15 minutes at 350. This is easy to make as well. Thanks for the recipe.
