Brazilian Bloom

Recipe #302917 | 3 min | 3 min prep | add private note

A crisp, Spring and Summer drink using Cachaca (a Brazilian style liquor similar to rum made with sugar cane - yummy!) from RR. **Cachaça is often said to differ from rum in that it is made from sugarcane juice while rum is made from either molasses or sugarcane juice then aged in oak barrels.** Updated per reviewer response. Thank you!

SERVES 1 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 lime wedges
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried hibiscus flowers
  • cracked ice
  • 1/4 cup cachaca (a Brazilian liquor similar to rum made with sugar cane)

Directions

  1. 1
In a cocktail shaker, combine the lime wedges, sugar and hibiscus; muddle with a wooden spoon.
  2. 2
    Fill halfway with cracked ice.
  3. 3
Add the Cachaca and shake for 15 seconds.
  4. 4
Strain the mixture into a cordial glass.
  5. 5
    Enjoy! ;).

Whoa,ho, ho. This is a yummy drink if you like strong and tart which is just what I LOVE!! It ended up being a beautiful pink color after the hibiscus flowers were muddled with the lime and shaken with the Cachaca...very lovely shade of PINK!! (of course, this is Michelle's drink....) I'll be having these at the end of a long day for sure!! I too have enough hibiscus flowers to last a lifetime! Thanks for the true Brazilian recipe Mommy Diva!

Very refreshing - and much sweeter than a caipirinha so would be a good starter drink for someone trying cachaça for the first time. It's closer to a rum than a brandy. The hibiscus flowers were fun. As a dare we did each eat one and the taste on their own is not so great. In the drink they're good, and as time went on, the flavor from the muddled flowers got stronger, and the drink got pinker. I bought a lifetime supply of these dried flowers at the Caribbean market for $1.99 so we'll be having Blooms again soon!
