I also grew up on this same recipe except my mom's version called for cream of chicken soup. I have been making my version for many years. I do not care for canned mushrooms so I just saute lots of sliced mushrooms in with the onion. I add about 1/3 tsp. ground mustard, and 1/8 - 1/4 cup dry sherry. I only use about 2/3 cup of sour cream. Like some others have suggested, I thin the sauce with a bit of beef broth. Easy, tasty and filling!

Very tasty shortcut to the traditional stroganoff, I made this exactly as written and it was great! Served with noodles, may even try with mashed potatoes or maybe left overs on baked taters! Thanks for posting!

This was very yummy!! I read the other review before I made this so I only used 1/2 the sour cream at first and tasted it, then added more. Every time I added more sour cream it got better and I used what the recipe called for. I did make some small adjustments. I left out the canned mushrooms because I forgot to get some...lol. But I did add about 1/4 cup of beef broth because the mixture was very think. At the end I added about 2Tbsp. of worcestershire sauce. I only used 1/2 bag of noodles because I like a higher meat mixture to noodles. But next time I will double the mixture recipe. My DH usually complains when I make beef stroganoff due to the fact that they always serve this in the chow hall when he has to eat there. But he actually said that this was VERY good! THANKS!!! Will be making this again soon!
