These onions are great with burgers (try it with my Chicago Beer Burgers). They can be cooked ahead, cooled and kept in the fridge. When you need them, simmer them gently. When they are hot, add a splash of beer to perk up the flavour.

SERVES 1 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Melt the butter in a pan. Add the onions and cook until tender.
  2. 2
Add 6 fl oz beer, sugar and salt. Cook approx 16/18 minutes until the beer is absorbed and the onions are starting to brown.
  3. 3
Add the remaining beer and simmer gently.
  4. 4
    Serve warm to accompany burgers.

Yummy! Yummy! I love how sweet the onions get in this recipe. I didn't use the whole bottle of beer, so I'm making this again tonight! Loved it. I used Budweiser and it tasted fine. Thanks for this one!

Really tasty! I've braised onions with beer before but using a longer simmer time and more beer than I've used previously really did help soak up the flavour and gave a great result.

These are fabulous. One of those why didn't I think of that recipes. I've had them before at restaurants but for some reason I never thought to make myself. I used a lager microbrew and couldn't have been happier.
