This makes a pizza-like dish, only with barbecue sauce. A quick, simple, tasty dish for a family supper--a definite kid-pleaser. A 9 1/2-oz package of biscuits gives a relatively thin crust. Use a 16 oz package of biscuits if you want a thicker crust. Update: It may be tempting to substitute ground turkey for ground beef in this recipe to make it more "heart-healthy," but because the beef flavor is an important part of this dish's appeal, I recommend against it. Of course, it's only as good as the barbecue sauce you use, so make sure you use a barbecue sauce--and a hot pepper sauce--you know you like.

SERVES 6 -8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • cooking spray
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup bottled barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco or Texas Pete)

  • 1 (9 1/2 ounce) can flaky refrigerated biscuits
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese ((4 oz, not American cheese or Velveeta)

Directions

  1. 1
Coat a skillet with cooking spray and heat the beef and onion in a skillet until the beef is brown and the onion is soft.
  2. 2
Drain off the fat and return the skillet to the stove.
  3. 3
Stir in barbecue sauce and hot pepper sauce; simmer while preparing crust.
  4. 4
Separate dough into 10 biscuits, place in and ungreased 13 X 9-inch pan, and press together over the bottom to form a crust.
  5. 5
Spread the meat mixture over dough.
  6. 6
    Sprinkle with the cheddar cheese.
  7. 7
    Bake at 375° 15-20 minutes.

This was very good! We loved the unique flavor. I added some dijon mustard in with the barbeque sauce for a little tang, and I used 20 biscuits instead of 10 because mine were small. Other than that I made it as written and it was great, thanks for posting we will be having this again!

We enjoyed this but the flavor was a little awkward for us. We have tried a different spin on it with sloppy joes instead of the BBQ and we liked that much better. But we did like the BBQ ok and it is a great idea, Thanks!

Super tasty and EASY! I used a 12 ounce can of Hungry Jack Flaky Buttermilk Biscuits and 1 1/2 lbs. of ground beef. I added extra BBQ sauce (Kraft Honey) to compensate for the extra meat. Because we had an extra person for dinner, I used another can of biscuits on the top. I cut them in half and stood them cut side down around the edge of the pan. All my husband said through dinner was how awesome this was. The rest of us all loved it too. Thanks for sharing!

I love this! It's FAST , it's easy, it's comfort food, it's just plain GOOD!!!!! I followed the recipe to the letter and was very happy with the results! I did have to cook mine a bit longer than stated, the crust was still a bit raw , but that was no big deal to me. I'll just make a note to leave it in an extra 10 min. or so. (and that could just be my oven!) Anyway, thumbs up from my house, this is really good! Thanks for posting!!
