BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwiches (Bar-B-Que Barbecue)

Recipe #100626 | ½ day | 30 min prep | add private note

This meal is one we always eat too much of. The sauce really makes the dish. Once I tried Sweet Baby Ray's I've never bought another kind of BBQ sauce. I serve with my Sweet, Creamy Coleslaw #100526.

SERVES 8 -10 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Place the pork shoulder roast in the crockpot on low (on high if frozen) with 1 cup of water, basil and rosemary for about 8 hours (can be done overnight, use low even if frozen).
  2. 2
    Remove any skin or bone.
  3. 3
Pull the meat apart into small pieces, I use forks, and return it to the crock pot.
  4. 4
Add a bottle of BBQ sauce and a little water (1/4 c.) and stir to coat.
  5. 5
Continue to cook on low for an hour or two.
  6. 6
Serve on hamburger buns with coleslaw.

I tried this with boneless pork shoulder and it didn't end up shredding easily, so we sliced it instead. It still tasted great though, but next time I'll be sure to use a bone-in pork shoulder!

I had a one and a half pound roast and followed the recipe as written other then I didn't use the whole bottle of sweet baby rays and hubby added a bit of mesquite bbq sauce also. Everyone enjoyed these. I put the roast on overnight, shredded it in the morning and added the sauce. Once the sauce was added, I only cooked for about an hour. We took it to the race track and ate dinner there. It was so moist and tender. The pork melted in your mouth.

We loved the recipe because the pork turned out wonderful and tender, but we will use a different BBQ sauce next time. We didn't like the sweetness of the Sweet Baby Ray's. It was just too much. We used a 2 pound tenderloin and cooked it exactly according to the directions. We will definitely be trying this again!

I am so happy that I love this recipe because I have enough for 12 more sandwiches - now sitting in my freezer. This is a very easy way to prepare pulled pork and produces lovely moist meat. I used Denzil's BBQ sauce. With the amount of meat I had I slow cooked it for 10 hours, poured in two bottles of sauce. After I poured the sauce on I let it sit in the fridge overnight and then slow cooked it for 3 hours next day just before using it. I served it on a mini Ciabatta that was topped with Jalapeno & Olives - wonderful Thanks Marg you've made my Saturday night meal.
