This is soo good and everyone loves it. I substituted the chessman cookies for walmart brand vanilla flavored cookies(they are not like nilla waffers they are more like the chessman) anyway it turn out awesome and the cookies were great.

Paula Dean calls this one "Not Yo' Momma's Banana Pudding" and I have been making it for years; ever since the first time I saw her do this one on her show. Make no mistake.... if you take this pudding anywhere you will be hounded for the recipe! The only changes I make now, after having done this recipe so many times, is to crush the 2nd bag of Chessmen into shortbread crumbs to top the pudding; and I also make it a point to refrigerate overnight, as the cookies on the bottom need time to soften. It is even better the second day, if there is any left!!! (That's pretty rare....)You will be the star of any potluck or family dinner if you bring this one--try it and see!

Whole family loves this pudding. We definitely prefer Chessman cookies over the typical Nilla Wafers! I've even made just the pudding part and substituted a banana cream instant pudding for the vanilla and then served in it parfait glasses with a Chessman cookie stuck in the top. Looked great and still had the banana taste without the bananas (I happened to be out out the time) It was great. This stuff disappears fast. Chessman cookies don't get as mushy as Vanilla wafers do. This is a family favorite.
