I get this recipe from my Pillsbury Family Cookbook that was published in 1963. It was my mothers, a graduation present I believe, and I refer to it on a regular basis for the classic preparation of many foods.

12 Biscuits (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Sift Flour Salt and Baking Powder into mixing bowl.
  2. 2
Cut in shortening until the particles are fine.

  4. 4
Drop by spoonfulls into greased muffin cups (2/3 full).
  5. 5
Bake 450 deg for 12/15 min.

While these weren't the best baking powder biscuits I've ever made, they definitely were the easiest and quickest to make, and are an excellent go-to biscuit recipe that lends itself to many add-ins. The outside crust is delicious, and the inside is moist and light. I used butter. I think mine are bigger than they're supposed to be because I made them in standard size muffin tins and only got 6 biscuits.

These were exactly what I was looking for! I make a casserole with a layer of mashed potatoes, cubed cooked chicken with white gravy, then needed the biscuit recipe for the topping, this was perfect! Will definitely keep this recipe and also try them alone as well! Thank you.

I never made drop biscuits before and had a few secret doubts. You made a believer out of me; they turned out great.I used butter instead of shortening and put the flour, baking powder, salt and the butter in my food processor, whirling it all around until it got crumbly. Then I added the milk and just gave it two seconds to barely blend. Had them for lunch with a nice big veggie salad. I'll keep this recipe to make again....thanks for sharing.
