No this isn't the 'real' animal, but a version of that used at the Winter Carnivals here in Canada.

These were tasty but not quite as authentic as I had hoped. I guess I'm more used to flakier beaver tails while this was more soft and fluffy. I also had some issues making the dough. At the beginning, it was more like pancake batter than a dough! I had to add a LOT more flour to get it anywhere near a dough consistency, so I'm not sure what happened in the process. It was quite a messy journey, lol, but it was still tasty in the end. I think I'd roll them out really really thin next time because they were HUGE after baking and not quite what I wanted. I definitely liked that it was baked and not deep fried in a ton of oil. My family enjoyed them too. Thanks

I am going to give you 5 stars on this. The reason, this is the second time I thought I was going to have to send for R-E-A-l Beaver tails to try it. Again I fell hook line and sinker. OH, the first time was 1945. We were up in your area(North Central Canada) dropping off a few aircraft for the RCAF and this Chap from Manitoba got me then. Great kidders you are one and all. GOD BLESS. Cap'n Jack

Oh my gosh! This is fabulous! Mixes up quickly, easy clean up (always a plus) and the rise/bake is so fast! And then there's the taste. 5 stars is not enough!! I can see trying this with slivered almonds next time, or even different spices. But as is, this is over the top goodness! Thank you so much for sharing!
