From Boy Meets Grill with Bobby Flay. I love all the ingredients in the sauce!

4 -6 servings (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds, plus more for sprinkling
  • 4 large garlic cloves, pressed
  • 3/4-1 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sherry wine
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, finely grated
  • 1/2 cup chopped scallion, plus more green tips for sprinkling (green and white parts, mixed)
  • 2 teaspoons red chili pepper flakes
  • 6 lbs beef short ribs, cut into thin pieces, about 2 1/2 inches long

Directions

  1. 1
Grind the sesame seeds in a coffee grinder until fine. Place the ground sesame seeds in a medium bowl and add the garlic, soy, sherry, honey, sesame oil, water, ginger, scallions, and red chili flakes, stir until thoroughly combined.
  2. 2
Put the ribs in a large baking dish, pour the marinade over, and turn to coat. Cover and let marinate in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours.
  3. 3
Preheat the grill to medium-high. Remove the ribs from the marinade and grill on both sides until golden brown and crispy, about 15 minutes. Reduce the heat of the grill, close the cover, and grill until tender, about 15 minutes longer.
  4. 4
Remove to a platter and sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Enjoy! Good served with rice.

Sharon, I can't rate these as I made a big mistake when making them, I forgot the soy sauce! Even without the soy sauce, the flavor was very nice, just very understated. I will try these again as Korean Shortribs are my all time favorite dish. So sorry!

This is a very good Kal-bi recipe. The garlic flavor comes thru quite well. However, I think I'll cut back on the soy sauce or perhaps try low sodium as they were a bit saltier than I'd prefer. I followed the recipe except for the cooking method due to stormy weather. I braised them in a 300F oven for 2.5 hrs and they were fork tender. Kamsahamnida, massi issumnida. ~Buddha

These were REALLY GOOD ! I was afraid the kids wouldn't like these, boy I was wrong. The flavor was really excellent. And I have used regular BBQ sauce, not anymore. They were just right, not to sweet, not to spicy. This is a definate keeper Thank you Sharon123 for the excellent recipe. Made for Potluck tag.
