A frosting just like the bakeries use on their cakes and there is no refrigeration required--it may be kept for 3 months covered in the refrigerator just bring to room temperature before using. Recipe yields 8 cups of frosting. You will love this!

  • 2 cups shortening
  • 1/2 cup non-dairy powdered coffee creamer (such as Coffee Mate)
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (can use more to taste)
  • 1/4-1/2 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 (32 ounce) package confectioners' sugar, sifted
  • 1/2-3/4 cup water
  • food coloring, use color of choice

Directions

  1. 1
In a large mixing bowl beat the shortening creamer and extracts.
  2. 2
Gradually beat in the confectioners sugar.
  3. 3
Add in enough water (starting with almost 1/2 cup) until frosting reaches desired consistency.
  4. 4
Add in food coloring until the desired shade is achieved.

Does taste just like the bakery! Very easy too! My first homemade frosting and I was proud of it!

This icing is so tasty, I just made it for the first time. I replaced one cup of shortening for one cup of butter (now needs refrigeration). Who knew that the non-dairy creamer would work in this. I will definitely use this for my next cake.

This is one of the best frostings I have used. I made 2 batches this weekend and both turned out great. On the first batch I used the recommended amount of almond extract and it was a little strong, so on the second batch I reduced it to a 1/2 tsp and it was perfect. Great recipe that I will for sure be adding to my recipe box. Thank you for sharing! Happy Holiday's!

This is the best frosting that I have ever made hands down. It has great texture and spreads very smooth. I will be using this one for now on. I used butter flavored Crisco sticks. I mixed this up in my 4 1/2 qtr Kitchen Aid mixer and the frosting filled it up about 3/4's of the bowl. So it makes a lot at a time.
