A good old favourite. Serve with tomato sauce. This recipe makes 18 rolls Definitely not a recipe for those of us who do not eat red meat and are gluten free.

SERVES 18 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Make "stale" breadcrumbs by processing one- or two-day-old bread.
  2. 2
Preheat the oven to moderately hot 200°C Line 2 oven trays with baking paper.
  3. 3
Heat butter in a large frying pan and add the onion and carrot. Stir for about 5 minutes, until the onion has softened. Combine the onion mixture, tomato sauce, parsley, sausage mince, beef mince, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly.
  4. 4
Place a sheet of thawed pastry on a board and cut in half.
  5. 5
Place one sixth of the mince mixture along the centre of the pastry.
  6. 6
Roll the pastry over to enclose the mince mixture. Cut this into 3 pieces.
  7. 7
Repeat with remaining pastry and mince mixture.
  8. 8
Place sausage rolls on prepared trays. Brush with milk.
  9. 9
Bake for about 15 minutes or until browned lightly.

Very easy and very good! The picture doesn't do it justice. It's pretty with the little flecks of carrot in the meat. I didn't cook the meat first. I looked up a bunch of sausage roll recipes, and they don't. It turned out fully cooked.

These were good. My husband especially enjoyed these. It was kinda' like meatloaf in puff pastry. I ate mine with cheddar and sour cream, but my husband liked his plain. I made this for zwt5.

thanks for posting this recipe Jubes. On a whim today i bought some sausage mince and decided to search for a recipe to make sausage rolls. What a great and simple recipe! I used store bought breadcrumbs as well, and I also added some grated zucchini just to increase the veggie content. I scoffed 2 as they came out of the oven! Definitely a keeper in our household. Planning to make this for my DS' birthday soon rather than buying the usual frozen sausage rolls! Thanks heaps...

Awesome recipe. I made this today and worked great. I made 10-12 sausage rolls as I put more meat in the roll. I used a medium to large sized onion and you can taste it above all the rest. But great having a taste of home. Mick
