Asian-Style Grilled Tilapia

Recipe #192282 | 35 min | 5 min prep | add private note

Oct 25, 2006

I have to put this recipe somewhere before it gets thrown away!! It was in the paper as a "Quick Meal". I just love tilapia!! Feel free to add more garlic or ginger to this sauce....the more the merrier, right?

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Combine the soy sauce, sugar, garlic, lime juice, ginger and red pepper flakes in a wide, shallow baking pan that will hold all of the fish in a single layer.
  2. 2
Stir briefly to dissolve the sugar.
  3. 3
Add the tilapia, then turn it over so that it's coated all over with the marinade.
  4. 4
Set aside for 20 min or so.
  5. 5
Heat the broiler to high, and move the oven rack to position closest to heat.
  6. 6
Slide the pan into the oven, and broil the fish for 5 minute Keep the oven door ajar so the broiler element stays lit.
  7. 7
Turn the pan around (back to front), and broil for 5 more minute.
  8. 8
If the juices in the pan appear to burn, add a little water to the dry spot to prevent burning.
  9. 9
The fish should be opaque and flaky.
  10. 10
Spoon the sauce over the fish when serving.

We liked this a LOT. I also doubled the marinade and used half on my stir-fry veggies that I served with it. I added it when the veg were almost done, so as not to overcook any of the marinade ingredients. Served it with brown rice. Yum!

I loved the marinade for this fish. I cooked it in a pan on the stovetop, skipped the broiler. The sauce thickened nicely in the pan. Unfortunately the fish I used (flounder) was overly fish, perhaps freezer burned I will make this again though!

The sauce was wonderful. The only changes I made were that I doubled the sauce amounts and added a heaping tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter then served it over pad thai noodles. I reduced the sauce to make it somewhat thicker to stick to the noodles a little better. My daughter and girlfriend loved it. I grilled them rather than broiled.
