Kids love these, and nothing beats eating doughnuts you have made yourself.

20 doughnuts (change servings and units)

Ingredients

For Topping

Directions

  1. 1
In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon.
  2. 2
Make a well in the center.
  3. 3
In a small bowl, cream together the sugar and butter, then beat in the egg.
  4. 4
Add the apple juice, milk, and vanilla to the creamed mixture, and beat all together.
  5. 5
Pour mixture into the center of the dry ingredients and stir until smooth.
  6. 6
Peel, core, and finely chop the apple, then stir it into the batter.
  7. 7
Cover and chill the dough for 1 hour.
  8. 8
Place half the dough on a floured board; knead lightly, and roll out to approximately 3/8-inch thick.
  9. 9
Cut with a floured 2 1/2-inch doughnut cutter.
  10. 10
Heat the oil to 375°F in a wok or skillet; fry the dough for 1-2 minutes on each side, until golden brown (do not overcrowd); drain on absorbent paper.
  11. 11
When cool, dust doughnuts with a mixture of 1 cup confectioners sugar mixed with 1 tbsp cinnamon placed in a sieve; shake off excess.

Delish! Mine came out overdone, but that is because I'm brand new to fry cooking. (Hehe, I love to bake.) I think I'd like to share some of my newfound frying experience :p... A) A minute is not actually that long. Dough fries FAST. B) After putting dough into the hot oil, the oil will not get any hotter...so don't get too excited and start putting the dough in 25 degrees too early! (but still, they came out good) I doubled the cinnamon and added nutmeg and allspice like Bayhill did. Even though mine were overdone, they were still scrumptious...best when they were still warm!

These little gems were yummy! They had a subtle, not too sweet apple flavor that my family really loved. I did double the cinnamon and also added 1/4 tsp. each nutmeg and allspice. The dough was very sticky, even after chilling so I had to use quite a bit of flour on my board when I was rolling out the dough. I think that next time I might add a little extra flour to the dough when mixing to make things a lot easier. Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe!! Made for Comfort Cafe

These were simply scrumptious! They reminded me of the donuts you get at the cider mill - in fact I think they were better! This is the first time I made donuts and I thought the whole process was pretty quick and easy. I'll be making these again & again

I had apple doughnuts at a food festival once and these smell and taste like the ones I remember. The only change I made was to double up on the cinnamon (you really can't have too much cinnamon in an apple doughnut, in my opinion).
