This recipe comes from the Pillsbury Fall Baking Booklet that I found in the checkout aisle of the grocery store. "Use a multipurpose apple, such as Braeburn or Gala, or a cooking apple such as McIntosh, for this recipe. HINT: Look for the cinnamon chips near the chocolate chips in the grocery store."

SERVES 32 , 1 9 x 13 inch pan (change servings and units)

Ingredients

FOR THE BARS

FOR THE GLAZE

Directions

  1. 1
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 13 x 9-inch pan with cooking spray.
  2. 2
In large bowl, beat butter and sugars with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add apple butter, eggs and vanilla; beat until well blended.
  3. 3
On low speed, beat in flour, baking soda and salt until well blended. Stir in apple and cinnamon chips. Spread batter in pan.
  4. 4
Bake for 28 to 32 minutes or until edges begin to pull away from sides of pan and top is evenly browned. Cool in pan on cooling rack at least 1 hour.
  5. 5
In small bowl, mix glaze ingredients until thin enough to drizzle. Drizzle glaze over bars. For bars, cut into 8 rows by 4 rows.

I love love love apple things and this did not disappoint! Made last night and they whipped up in a flash. I did not have apple butter (and I thought I did!) so I substituted apple sauce and it worked just fine. Only other change was I did not make the frosting. I tried them first and they were plenty sweet for us. The frosting will be made next round. Thumbs up on this one and will make again for sure. Thanks!
