Apple Cake With Caramel Sauce

I think the title pretty well explains it. This is a very moist cake with a hint of health--well, it uses whole wheat anyway.

SERVES 12 (change servings and units)

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    Cream butter and sugar (less the 1 cup 2 tablespoons of butter for sauce) together.

    Beat in eggs one at a time.
  5. 5
    Sift together remaining dry ingredients (less the 1 cup 2 tablespoons of butter for sauce).

    Add dry ingredients to mixture alternately with chopped apples.
  7. 7
    Stir in vanilla.

    Pour into a prepared 9x13-inch pan and bake for 40-50 minutes.

    Let cool in pan before cutting.

    Sauce.

    Combine last 4 ingredients in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove immediately.

    Pour over cake and serve immediately.
