My daughter Teresa followed this recipe to make her first pie. It was delicious; she did a great job and the recipe was perfect! The crust was very flaky. She used gala apples because it's what we had on hand. I'm proud of her! Thanks for the recipe!

This pie turned out exactly like you would hope. I bought 4 very large Braeburn apples which yielded 7 cups. That was a perfect amount. Another very nice thing about this recipe is that the topping uses just 3 T. butter, whereas so many other similar recipes use 8 T. butter. I felt there was plenty of topping and wouldn't change a thing when I make this again!

A great apple pie! The crust is similar to the crust I usually make only I add a little more shortening. I used about 5 cups of apples, 1 t ground cinnamon and 1/2 t nutmeg. It had a great flavor. The crumb topping is delicious and really makes this pie. I will definitely make again.
