Amazing Garlic Bread

Recipe #46183 | 55 min | 40 min prep | add private note

Nov 15, 2002

This is about the best garlic bread I have ever had. Garlic wusses, proceed with caution!

SERVES 6 , 1 loaf (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Preheat oven to 350.
  2. 2
Take a piece of foil and place whole garlic cloves in it, coating with a generous amount of olive oil.
  3. 3
    Wrap tightly.
  4. 4
Bake until done, 20 min to 1/2 hour.
  5. 5
Cloves will be done when sweet smelling, soft and golden brown.
  6. 6
    Split bread lengthwise.
  7. 7
    Remove excess dough.
  8. 8
Mash roasted garlic with all other ingredients except cheeses.
  9. 9
Spread cut surfaces of bread with butter mixture.
  10. 10
Sprinkle with parmesan and layer bottom half with mozzarella.
  11. 11
Press halves together and wrap tightly in foil.
  12. 12
Bake at 350 degrees until outer crust is crispy and cheese is melted, about 15 minutes.
  13. 13
Let cool slightly and cut into thick vertical slices.
  14. 14
I like it just as it is, crispy outside, moist and chewy (and slightly saturated!) inside, but you could bake this open faced on a cookie sheet for a crisper texture.
  15. 15
If you do this, put mozzarella on both sides.
  16. 16
You can make the garlic butter ahead of time and refrigerate it.
  17. 17
It's also to die for melted over hot pasta!

OMG! This garlic bread was out of this world! I followed the directions, and added the melted mozzarella. My family and company said it was the most delicious garlic bread ever (and we LOVE garlic bread!). I roasted the garlic early in the day, and kept in saved at room temp. It saved me some time that evening. Super recipe!

OUTSTANDING! Crispy on the outside and soft and buttery on the inside. A perfect garlic bread. We used mozzarella this time, but it would be delicious without it, too. I was worried the mayo would make it greasy....not at all. PERFECT!

It's amazing! I cheated - didn't have any real garlic, so I just added more minced. I know, I know, it must be even better with the roasted. I skipped the cheese, too. It was soooo good. DH and the kids loved it. We had extra slices for dessert.
