All-American Hamburgers

Been making 1/4 pound burgers like this forever, and dont think its ever been posted here. One of our all-time favorites on the summer grill! We also love these with a slice of cooked bacon for a bacon cheeseburger.

SERVES 8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs 85% lean ground beef
  • 4 tablespoons dry onion soup mix (1 envelope)
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce
  • 8 buns
  • lettuce, for topping
  • pickle, sliced for topping
  • tomato, sliced for topping
  • cooked bacon (optional)

Directions

  1. 1
    In a large bowl, combine beef, soup mix and Worcestershire sauce.
  2. 2
    Mix just until blended dont overwork the meat.
  3. 3
    Shape into eight patties.
  4. 4
    Grill over medium coals to desired doneness or until no longer pink in the center and a minimum temperature of 160 degrees, brushing frequently with barbecue sauce.

    Top with cheese; continue grilling until cheese is melted.
  6. 6
    For each serving; fill bun with lettuce, pickle slices, tomato and hamburger patty.

My husband loved this! I used extra lean ground beef & hot/spicy BBQ sauce. I made the big mistake of cooking this inside on the stovetop, so when I brushed on the sauce, it made quite a sizzle! Next time I'll use a cover or grill them inside! I served it on a wheat bun w/ a slice of pepperjack. Thanks for sharing!

    I thought these were just okay. I solid burger but not exactly to our taste. I thought the onion soup added a funny, off taste to the burger.
