    Cut apples in quarters.

    Peel and core the apples.

    Put apples in a bowl of cold water.

    Cut apples into slices.
  5. 5
    Put them in a saucepan with the water and a tiny pinch of salt.

    Cover and simmer gently till apples are soft.

    Add sugar (depending on how sweet you want the sauce to be).

    Simmer well to melt sugar.

    Cook down sauce.

I agree with everyone. This recipe was super simple and delicious. I'm not a huge applesauce fan, but my daughter is, and even I would eat a big bowl full of this. Thanks for the recipe!!

    I couldn't believe how easy it was to make! Next time I'll use just a bit less sugar. I may never buy jarred applesauce again!

    I had six apples sitting around doing nothing and so I came to recipezaar and found your simple, perfect apple sauce. This will be a staple from now on. 10 stars would be best for something so basic, wonderful and lovely.

    This is exactly how I make my apple sauce. I rarely find it necessary to add sugar as the natural sweetness of the apples is more than enough for me, but if you normally buy sweetened apple sauce you may want to add a bit.
