Simple Sugar Scrub

Recipe #92027 | 5 min | 5 min prep | 1 Jar (Change Servings)

RECIPE BY: .::.Blink.::.

This a simple to make and easy to use sugar scrub. You may have seen simmilar versions selling in chain stores that are expensive. However, this is simple to make and easy to make variations of. Its good for exfoliating any part of your body and seems to work well on my sensitive skin. It makes my skin soft without having to spend a lot which is important when you are a broke student! I hope you enjoy! This originally callled for one cup olive oil, but i have since changed it to 1/2 cup to reflect the reccomendations of others.

Ingredients

  • 1 clear plastic jar
  • cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • lemon juice (optional)
  • scented essential oil (optional)
  • Directions

    1. 1
      mix the sugar and olive oil in the plastic container. I do not recomend using a glass jar for this, since you will most likely have this in your bathroom.
    2. 2
      add any optional scents you like. I have discovered that adding peppermint oil or orange oil helps refresh you, while lavender is more soothing. My favorite oil to use is sandlewood.
    3. 3
      to use: place some on a wash cloth and rub in circles anywhere you need exfoliation. After letting it sit for awhile the sugar may settle to the bottom, so it may be necessary to shake this up a little before using.

    I can't tell you how nice it is to know that I can make my own spa products at home without spending a huge amount on lower quality retail stuff. I'm lucky enough to have an organic store right down the road from me, so I made up my own batch of this with some grape seed, jojoba, sweet almond, and apricot kernel oils mixed in with the olive oil. I also tossed in a spoonful of cocoa butter that I had laying around (5 bucks for a HUGE bottle at wal mart) and scented it with a chopped up vanilla bean and some coffee grounds from the kitchen. It's a really nice treat to wake up to in the morning thanks a million again!!!

    Just a comment - when making your own products with essential oils in them, you should put them into glass containers. You can use plastic, but when you use plastic, some of the essential oils gets absorbed into the plastic and the smell will not last as long as it would in a glass container. Glass containers do not absorb the oils, and you can wash it out easily. So, if you are using a plastic container make sure that you don't intend to use it for any other purpose (like food storage) because the oils get absorbed, and I dont think anyone would like lavender mixed with your leftovers! Thanks!

    Awesome recipe! I just needed to treat my hands like a lady, and this was just perfect with all the ingredients available at home, costing just few pennies, involving the least time possible and providing the finest result! I used the juice of 4 limes as a substitute instead of lemons. I made this in 2 batches: one with the lime juice and 1 without. Both are simply marvellous on my sensitive skin. This is a wonderful recipe. Note: You can also use table salt instead of sugar and make this. It gives good results and is something I have been doing for a very long time now Thanks a bunch for the recipe!
