90 minutes start to finish for hot rolls! I grew up with these rolls, one of my moms specialties.

SERVES 24 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Dissolve yeast in water and add all other ingredients and mix well.
  2. 2
    Let rise 20 minutes.
  3. 3
    Shape into rolls.
  4. 4
    Let rise 30 minutes.
  5. 5
    Bake 15 minutes at 425°.
  6. 6
You may need more flour to make the dough the right consistency (should be only slightly sticky, spray your hands with Pam and dough will not stick to your hands).

Of course with rolls this could always be the baker's fault and not the recipe itself but I'll be looking for a better recipe. The roll was a little stiff even on the inside. Not soft like I was hoping for.

Excellent! I made these rolls today and with the modification of the flour to 6 cups, they came out very good. They tasted a bit heavy to me so I think that I needed to knead them more to get the dough to lighten up. The trick to getting the dough to the right consistency is to add flour and knead until you can lightly press one finger into the dough and it springs back. If it doesn't spring back then the dough is too heavy to rise. I'm a military wife overseas in Germany where the temperature is cold right now so I had to heat the oven to 400 degrees and open it so the heat could assist with rising. It worked great. I hope this help anyone who decides to make these b/c they are a great roll! Good luck!

Sorry to say but this recipe didn't work for me neither. It may have been the flour I used or something. I will say it makes a good pizza dough though.

Thanks to you, my rolls finally turned out! Usually, my rolls are flat and wierd looking, but these were great. I added about another cup and a 1/4 of flour (until it was a sticky dough instead of pancake batter-y), but that was the only adjustment I made. I baked mine in a 9x13 pan and they rose beautifully. Thanks again for posting!
