Green Beans With Bacon & Onion

Recipe #87295 | 20 min | 10 min prep | add private note

By: Marlene.
Mar 22, 2004

My mom made them like this ... When I make them now , as an adult, I could just eat THESE for dinner These are not fancy by any means. 3 ingredients . Mm! The only thing is, all ingredients are "to taste" I guess I have to give some kind of measurement as guidelines though, so I'll give it my best shot!

SERVES 3 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Take scissors (I have a pair I use for food only) and cut up your bacon into a skillet.
  2. 2
Start frying over medium heat until you get some of the bacon grease"oozing" out.
  3. 3
    LOL Add diced onion.
  4. 4
Continue to cook until bacon is done.
  5. 5
Cook your green beans according to package directions.
  6. 6
When done, drain them and pour into a bowl.
  7. 7
Dump the fried bacon and onion (and grease) over the green beans.
  8. 8
    Toss to coat.
  9. 9
    Serve!
  10. 10
*Iknow, this sounds greasy, but when spread out over a good sized serving of green beans, it's really not that bad.
  11. 11
Also, I have used turkey bacon before and it works ok-- then you don't have the grease though, to fry up the onions--.

I grew up eating these too! I used fresh green beans and just a couple strips of bacon and maybe a quarter of a small onion. Didn't have a ton of beans so just cooked up what looked good! You can't go wrong with these, they're delicious!

My mom always makes this when I was young, it is just the BEST!! Frozen or garden fresh green beans you just can't best this recipe. Here is another hint for those who can their green beans. Put a half slice of bacon and a small onion in each jar when you can your green beans. But I always add more bacon and onion when I fix the gr beans.

I too have made this recipe for years. I always use at least a half of pound of bacon and two medium onions. I drain the grease completely, and pour over my green beans and allow to sit for 30 minutes. I then reheat in mircrowave for a minute to warm it up. Has plenty of bacon flavor, without the grease this way.
