I started making this sandwich when I was about 13. It's one of my favourites. I slice the cheese slightly thicker.

SERVES 1 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Spread margarine/butter and Strawberry jam on the slice of bread.
  2. 2
    Put sliced chedder on top.
  3. 3
Toast sandwich until the cheese has melted- about 5 mins (I prefer them with blisters)
  4. 4
    Take out of oven.
  5. 5
    Cool before digging in!

When I first saw this recipe I thought "jam, and cheese?", much the same way Peter Kay said "garlic, and bread?" (not sure if youre familiar with Peter Kays stand up stuff, he was talking about the conservative British! really very funny :o)) Anyway, I was brave n tried it and really enjoyed it, thank you! :o)

I love a simple recipe, and this one delivers that familiar-yet-new delight. The kids also loved it. I only had mild cheddar on hand but agree that sharp would really be great. Thanks for jazzing up our lunch!

I had this for my lunch today - it was real quick and easy, and very tasty! I left out the butter cause I was too hungry to wait for it to soften. I also tried it with blueberry jam - it was even better than strawberry! I used Australian Cheddar, sliced really thin. Great combi of sweet and salty. I had 4 pieces in one sitting (told you I was starving and they were really good!).
