Fantastic Caramel Bread Pudding

One of my family's favorite bread pudding, the caramel topping is what makes this!

SERVES 6 -8 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

CARAMEL SAUCE

Directions

    Set oven to 350 degrees.

    Butter a 2-qt baking dish.
  3. 3
    Trim the crust off of bread, and cut into 1-inch cubes.
  4. 4
    Scatter bread crumbs into baking dish.
  5. 5
    Sprinkle the raisins over bread cubes.
  6. 6
    In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, vanilla and milk.

    Pour the mixture over the bread cubes.

    Pressing the bread down with a spatula to help absorb the liquid.

    Let sit for 30 minutes.

    Place the baking dish with the pudding mix, into a larger pan.

    Pour water 2/3 of the way up the outside dish to make a water bath.

    Bake for 1-1/4 hours, until puffed and firm.

    FOR CARAMEL SAUCE: Melt butter in a small saucepan.

    Then whisk in the 1/2 cup brown sugar, then stir for 3-5 minutes.

    Add in the heavy cream, and continue to stir for 2 mins more.

    Top sauce onto bread pudding.

I have never had bread pudding before but my husband is a big fan and always raves about the bread pudding he gets in the cafeteria at work. Since hubby didn't go to work today and i had a day old Italian loaf I thought I'd surprise him by whipping this up. He's a purist and insisted on a Delicious Vanilla Sauce (Delicious Vanilla Sauce) This was scumptious and i will make it again. Hubby says "it's as good or better" than the one he gets a work. Thank you

    I had about 2 1/2 dozen stale cinnamon knots and this was a delicious way to (re)use them! I was out of butter so I didn't make the sauce. Thanks for posting!

    This was the best bread pudding I have ever made...I used splenda in the pudding and splenda brown sugar in the sauce...both turned out wonderful...It was rich, creamy and just the way a bread pudding should be.....thanks for making me look like a pro kittencal...

    AWESOME is the right word for this recipe! We loved it! The sauce was incredible. I doubled it, just from the ingredients. It is wonderful. My husband bit into it and I heard mmmmmm coming from his mouth, a sound he doesn't make tooo often. That means it was out of this world good! Thanx for a great recipe addition.
