Faux Febreeze

Recipe #71485 | 1 min | 1 min prep | 1 bottle (Change Servings)

RECIPE BY: Loves2Teach

A wonderful dirt cheap alternative to buying a $5 bottle of Febreze. This version is about 5 cents to make and the scent is much nicer too. I use it all the time.

Posted on: Sep 15, 2003

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2-4 tablespoons ultra downy clean breeze fabric softener
  • 25 ounces water
  • 32 ounces spray bottle, new and clean (please don't re-use a cleaning product bottle unless it is an old Febreeze bottle)
  • Directions

    1. 1
Put Downy and water in bottle and spray on furniture, carpeting, pillows, shower curtains -- etc -- To do a fabric test, spray small amount in an area where it cannot be seen.
    2. 2
I never sprayed this on anything white, but I spray it all over my house, once a week.

I have been using this for several months now. I am sorry I haven't rated until now. I love this! I use Downy's vanilla/lavender scent. Makes everything smell so good. Way better than the real febreeze and cheaper too. I have passed this on to everyone and now they are going to zaar for all their recipes. Thank you so much for this awesome recipe Loves2Teach.

Wow! This is the greatest thing since Febreeze! I love it. The scent is alot better than those febreeze scents. They had one that use to be close to that scent and they discontinued it. So, this is my "new" house scent! Love it, Love it, Love it! I did use 4 tbls. Seems I have to spray less for a good scent and it didn't discolor anything.

Just a FYI, I use this in a different way. If you spray your carpet as you vaccum, the anti-static properties make it easier to get pet hair out of the carpet. The smell is just a bonus! Anyone who has a pet like my sheltie will absolutely love this.

I've been using this for about a week. My couch smells good, but I wanted a little stronger smell, so I put in about 4 tablespoons of Downy in a 32 ounce spray bottle. My house smells fantastic and the cost is outstanding compared to Febreeze. I just used this on white pillowcases, and it didn't stain. And the price can't be beat! I'll be using this from now on instead of expensive Febreeze. Thanks, B!
