Country White Bread or Dinner Rolls (Bread Machine)

We think this is the best white bread recipe ever! It is a tender bread with a slightly sweet taste. My dinner rolls using this dough are so good, everyone always loves them. It doesn't take to long to make them when the bread maker does most of the work. The cook time is listed for the rolls only because everyone's bread makers cooks at different rates. Mine is older and a regular loaf will take 4 hours and 10 minutes. I have found that 15 balls of dough fit perfectly in the 9X13 pan with sides touching after raising the 2nd time but they can be made whatever size you want. I hope you enjoy this great bread as much as we do.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
In bread machine pan, place all ingredients from flour through yeast in order as recommended by the manufacturer.
  2. 2
    Select the basic bread setting.
  3. 3
Check dough after 5 minutes of mixing, if needed add 1-2T of water or flour.
  4. 4
    Bake as normal.
  5. 5
    For dinner rolls.
  6. 6
Mix in bread machine but use only the dough option.
  7. 7
    Lightly grease a 9 x 13 baking pan (I always use a metal pan).
  8. 8
When dough is finished shape into 15 uniformly sized balls. I always grease my hands with shortening to smooth the dough out and it helps keep the dough from drying out.
  9. 9
Cover and let the rolls rise in a warm, draft free place until risen to the desired size.
  10. 10
I let them about double in size.
  11. 11
Bake in a 350° oven about 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  12. 12
After removing from the oven, brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter.
  13. 13
Take out of pan and let completely cool before storing.

This is the best. I am using a bread machine and had to adjust the servings to 12 instead of the current 15, but bakes beautifully otherwise. My husband want me to make this instead of buying bread from now on.

Just finished baking these rolls for supper. DH and DGS loved them. Next time I think I'll add a little more salt. I made this with regular white flour next time I'll try bread flour. Didn't have any in the house today. Will continue to make this receipe. Very easy and doesn't take much time. Longest time is waiting on the bread machine to mix the dough. I sat mine on the top of the stove while supper cooked so had a warm place to rise. States to cool completely before serving, but DH likes his bread just cool enough to eat. Thanks for a great basic bread receipe. I think I'll try cinnamon rolls for the grandchildren next.

WOW! This is the best white bread I have ever made! I made this not only as plain bread, but then substituted a half cup of oat flour, and then made a loaf of cheese-stuffed bread. Divided the loaf in half, and spread the 2 halves out..sandwiched in about a 1/3 c crumbled feta and 2/3 c mozzarella. Let it rize the final hour and baked in the oven on a stone for about 20 minutes. Perfectly delicious!

I needed to add about 1/3 cup of flour to my dough before it cleaned the sides of my machine - I have a Breadman and this seems to be a trend with every loaf I make. It turned out very nicely. High riser, great taste and nice texture. This is a keeper!
