This vanilla sauce goes great with bread pudding or ice cream, for the best taste use pure vanilla extract for this only!

2 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Scald the cream with 1/2 cup milk in a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
  2. 2
Add in the sugar and a pinch of salt; mix to combine until no sugar granules remain.
  3. 3
Dissolve the cornstarch in the remaining 2 tablespoons COLD milk in a small cup.
  4. 4
Stir it into the cream mixture and bring to a boil over low heat, whisking constantly.
  5. 5
Continue boiling and whisking until the sauce thickens, about 3 minutes.
  6. 6
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in butter, vanilla and nutmeg.
  7. 7
Allow the sauce to cool slightly before serving.
  8. 8
    Delicious!

Served over Fantastic Caramel Bread Pudding Fantastic Caramel Bread Pudding (minus the caramel) and it was delicious. Very easy to make. I omitted the butter and the nutmeg and used a bit more than 2tsp vanilla. i will make this again. Thank you

I made this wonderful sauce to be served over Apple Bread with a dollop of whipped nuti whip. Delicious is the only word that was heard from the group. I was looking for a simple dessert to be served at a get together at the lake. I doubled the recipe which worked perfectly. I will be making this sauce many times in the future. Once again Kitten, a wonderful recipe. Thanks

Thanks so much! I served this for Thanksgiving over my Fresh Apple-Walnut Cake. It was a hit! It would work well served with many things. I would love to try it with Pumpkin bread.
