This is a very easy dish to make, despite the long ingredient list. prep time includes marinating time. This is a spicy recipe so if you're not into spiciness, cut down on the jalapeno and red pepper or just continue searching for another recipe!

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Marinade

Sauce

Directions

  1. 1
For marinade, combine yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, red pepper, black pepper, cinnamon, salt and ginger in a medium bowl or food-safe plastic bag; stir in chicken, marinate in refrigerator 1 hour.
  2. 2
Meanwhile, soak six 6-inch bamboo skewers in water to cover 30 minutes and set aside.
  3. 3
For sauce, melt butter in a large, deep skillet over medium heat, add garlic and jalapeno; cook 1 minute.
  4. 4
Stir in coriander, cumin, paprika, garam masala and salt.
  5. 5
Stir in tomato sauce, simmer 15 minutes, stir in cream; simmer until sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
  6. 6
Meanwhile, heat grill to medium-high (or heat broiler).
  7. 7
Remove chicken from refrigerator and thread chicken onto skewers; discard marinade.
  8. 8
Grill or broil chicken, turning occasionally, until cooked through, about 8 minutes.
  9. 9
Remove chicken from skewers; add to sauce; Simmer 5 minutes; sprinkle with chopped cilantro.
  10. 10
Serve with basmati rice, naan or pita bread.
  11. 11
*garam masala is sold in Indian markets and some specialty stores.
  12. 12
    * I've made this with fat-free cream and it was still wonderful.

Great recipe! I'll make a few adjustments next time, like 12 oz of tomato sauce instead of 8, and 1/5 a jalapeno instead of a whole - a whole jalapeno made this recipe too spicy-hot for my taste, and I'd prefer to simply enjoy the flavor instead of the sting. But this is a wonderful recipe and perhaps the best I've found on Recipezaar yet!

This was definitely good, and I would give it 5 stars, except that I had to make adjustments to fit my "5 Star tastes". I did add more tomato sauce, not for color purposes but for taste. I also added more garlic, about 5 cloves in total and more of both cumin and coriander. I should have added more jalapeno as I like mine hot, but instead I squirted about 2 tablespoons of sriracha sauce on my own personal serving. Yum. All in all, this is a very tasty recipe and I will most likely make it again. It's very easy to make and the ingredients are easily found as well. It's the closest recipe I have tried that resembles my favorite restaurant's famouse dish!!

Oh my...this recipe TOTALLY ROCKS! I followed the ingredients to a T, and the sauce is fabulous. I did make one change though...instead of skewering the chicken and grilling, I spread the pieces of meat on a baking tray and broiled them...I saved quite a bit of time that way. The recipe didn't say when to add the cilantro, so I added half after cooking, and stirred it in, and the other half was for garnish. YUM! We loved this recipe! Thanks!

This recipe is really great. I followed canarygirl's tip of grilling the meat without skewers. Other than that followed the recipe exactly. My granddaughter requested this for dinner and prides herself as being a connoiseur of Chicken Tikka and this she says is the best she has had.
