Teriyaki Sauce

Recipe #67677 | 40 min | 10 min prep | add private note

Jul 28, 2003

I had a hard time finding a good teriyaki recipe, there are so many different kinds. I found this on the internet, it is a Hawaii style teriyaki, and has the taste I was looking for (grew up in Hawaii). This is very sweet, and thick, and I usually dilute it a little before using it.

1 1/2 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shoyu (Japanese soy sauce)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 inches fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed with the side of chefs knife and peeled

Directions

  1. 1
Stir together shoyu and sugar in a small saucepan over low heat until sugar dissolves, about 2 minutes.
  2. 2
Add ginger, garlic, and simmer for about 30 minutes.
  3. 3
Remove and discard ginger and garlic.
  4. 4
Sauce will keep in a sealed container in refrigerator for at least a month.

Made this for some deep fried wings on Saturday night and it was just what I was looking for. Great taste and oh so easy to make. My husband scarfed these up and commented on how good the sauce was-he rarely comments on anything so I knew it was a great sauce. Thanks for sharing this Basilicious!!!

This is so similar to my favorite Teriyaki sauce---the only thing missing is an ounce of good bourbon!!! Great on wings or just baste a whole chicken while baking with this great and simple sauce!!!

i marinated chicken breast with this sauce and broiled it. i served the chicken over rice with chopped green onions, toasted sesame seeds and more sauce drizzled on top. this was SO GOOD!! my hubby said it was the best teriyake he had ever had. i added about a 1/2 cup of water to the sauce while cooking to dilute the saltiness a bit. this was saucey perfection!
