Apple Pie

Recipe #65429 | 1½ hours | 20 min prep | add private note

By: ellie_
Jun 24, 2003

This is the apple pie I've been making for years and if using Pillsbury pie crusts (ready-made pie dough in the dairy section) is the perfect pie-making project for kids. Recipe adapted from an old church cookbook.

SERVES 8 , 1 9inch pie (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
    Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. 2
Line pie pan with bottom crust.
  3. 3
    Peel and slice apples.
  4. 4
Put 1/2 of the apple slices in prepared pie pan.
  5. 5
Sprinkle apple slices with 1/2 cup sugar, a little nutmeg and cinnamon.
  6. 6
Add rest of apples and top with rest of sugar (1/2 cup), a little nutmeg cinnamon, flour and butter or margarine cut into small pieces.
  7. 7
    Sprinkle with lemon juice.
  8. 8
    Cover with top crust.
  9. 9
    Crimp edges together with fork.
  10. 10
Sprinkle top with sugar and cut steam vents in top crust.
  11. 11
Put pie on baking sheet in case of spill-overs.
  12. 12
Bake for 1 hour at 350°F.

The best apple pie I have ever made! I chose to only add 1/2 cup of sugar and bake for 80 minutes, checking every 5 minutes after 1 hour and I also coved the pie with foil around the edges for 35 minutes. I have already been asked to make this recipe for christmas because they siad this was my best apple pie I have made.

This makes a delicious pie! I made it using McIntosh apples, so I only used 3/4 cup sugar and sprinkled 2 Tbsp flour on top to counteract their moistness. I also used a full tsp of cinnamon, because I love cinnamon! It turned out terrific! I took it to a family gathering, and everyone raved about it. I'll be making this again and again!
