Cabbage Toran

Here's a delicious reason to eat this nutrient rich vegetable! Serve this with rice.

SERVES 4 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

    Heat the oil in a large skillet.
  2. 2
    Add the mustard seeds.
  3. 3
    Lower the heat and cover the skillet while the seeds are popping.
  4. 4
    After the popping has stopped, add the cabbage.
  5. 5
    Stir well to coat.
  6. 6
    Cover and simmer 20 minutes.
  7. 7
    Add the turmeric, chili powder if desired, coconut and salt.
  8. 8
    Mix well.
  9. 9
    Cover and simmer 10 minutes more.

    Serve warm.

    Variation: To make Vegetable Toran, replace the cabbage with 6 cups frozen mixed vegetables.

Wow! EVERYBODY loved this! I think the coconut got lost, tho. We loved the flavor. I used all the ingredients as suggested but only cooked it about 15 minutes total. A great dish! Thank you!

    I really liked this! I didn't use the chili powder or the coconut, just because of the other things I was eating it with. I added a little salt to taste. Excellent way to prepare cabbage!

    This is great cabbage! I did use a pinch of the optional chili powder. I thought it (and the other spices) went well with the subtle coconut flavor. Thanx for a unique cabbage recipe. It's a keeper for sure!
