This is a clone for the famous English "Houses of Parliament" steak sauce & a must have recipe for all canadians living outside the country. I got it from a co-worker many years ago & haven't used the store-bought product since; however, I do keep my current supply in an old bottle for that authentic look (lol). If you prefer more of a bite, increase the tabasco!!

4 cups (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a dutch oven.
  2. 2
Bring to a boil, lower heat& cook, uncovered, for an hour, stirring occasionally.

As an American, I had never heard of H P Sauce but I had an excess of tomatoes and this recipe looked intriguing. WOW!! is that ever yummy!!! I wasn't sure how thick it was supposed to be so I cooked it down, ran it through my tomato press and then added some cornstarch to get the consistency of tomato puree. It reminds me of Bob's Big Boy's "special sauce". I have not tried it on anything yet but can't wait. Thanks for a new taste experience.

Lucked out on tomatoes at the market last week, had enough left to make half a recipe of sauce this morning. This has a nice taste and will make a good dipping sauce. Like Tara I too found it tasted much like H P Sauce and I also had to add cornstarch in order to get it to thicken. Will be making this again come fall with homegrown tomatoes and will get back with the results. Thank you Country Lady for posting this very interesting recipe.

A very good sauce which I find is great also as a dipping sauce! Easy to make. I was liberal with the hot sauce and am glad, it's intensely hot the way I like it. I strained it using a wire mesh strainer, bottled it (in empty HP sauce bottles of course), and am keeping it in the fridge. My batch yielded about 3 cups. I'm delighted to find this recipe, thank you, country lady!

I used a large can of tomatoes for this and it seemed to work. Mine did not have the original HP flavour but it is a good sauce to use in place of HP anyway. Thanks CountryLady
