Jambalaya w/shrimp, chicken and sausage

Recipe #52095 | 1¼ hours | 30 min prep | add private note

By: J e l i s a
Jan 24, 2003

Had this for the first time at a dinner party, now I HAVE to make it every month or so. It's better if you have the sausage, chicken and shrimp prepared before starting, that way you can dig in once the rice is cooked.

SERVES 4 -6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Brown smoked sausage and drain excess grease.
  2. 2
Set aside along with pre-cooked shrimp and chicken.
  3. 3
Fry bacon until crisp in 3-quart Dutch oven or large deep skillet.
  4. 4
    Do not drain.
  5. 5
Stir in celery, rice, onion, garlic and green pepper.
  6. 6
Cook and stir over medium-high heat for 5 minutes.
  7. 7
Add tomato sauce, sausage, water, barbecue sauce, salt and cayenne.
  8. 8
    Stir.
  9. 9
    Bring to a boil.
  10. 10
    Cover.
  11. 11
    Simmer 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  12. 12
Add chicken and shrimp, allow to simmer another 10 minutes until heated.

I've never had proper jambalaya but this recipe inspired me to make my own kind of version using some british ingredients (incl. white pudding) and some veggies that we like. I'm sure it tasted nothing on earth like this jambalaya does but I wanted to say thank you anyway for the inspiration!

This recipe was awesome I didn't change anything except for the celery. My hubby and I aren't celery fans. It was awesome!! The best jambalaya I've ever had!

Holy Shomoly....what an awesome recipe!!! I gobbled down 2 bowl fulls. This was my first time making jambalaya from scratch. All the chopping was a little time consuming, but well worth it all. Even my son said this recipe was a definate keeper. It was a little spicy for his taste, but I thought it was perfect, just enough to give it a kick, but not so much you are rushing around to find a drink. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I won't go back to the boxed kind again.

This is the best! It was so very good. It makes a huge batch, but is just as good reheated. I didn't have garlic bbq sauce so i used what i had on hand (Famous Dave's Sweet & Zesty) and it had just the right kick. I also used Turkey Smoked Sausage to reduce the fat (every little bit helps, right)! Otherwise, i followed the recipe as is. I will definetely be making this many times to come. I got rave reviews! Thank you for this recipe! Delicious!!!
