Mean's Dutch Babies

A simple and tasty breakfast/brunch treat. This is an adopted recipe from the RecipeZaar account, and I am delighted to be the new owner of such a winning recipe. If you would like the inside of the finished dish to be a little less "egg-y" then cut the number of eggs down to 3, and many many reviewers also found that just 3 Tablespoons of butter worked better for them. Either way they did it, they all agreed that the taste was great. Enjoy!

What a great treat for a special breakfast! I doubled and baked in my 4 quart braiser pan. The Dutch Baby was quite impressive rising high in the oven, making a bowl shaped appearance, browning beautifully along the edges. Once removed from the oven, the Dutch Baby quick collapses when exposed to room temperature. I loved the egg-y richness and texture! I served with real maple syrup and blackberries sprinkled on top with powdered sugar for a special treat! I will remember this recipe when having guests I really want to impress! Thanks so much, kiwidutch!

This was quite nice actually. Only 1 serve, i halfed the recipe, used 1 large egg, 1 tbs butter which was PLENTY, it sat in the middle and i drained it after cooking. I made a blueberry/cranberry syrup which was nice but the cranberry added a sour touch to it & i would have preferred it to be sweeter. So next time i'll probably make a plain blueberry or strawberry sauce. I used a small deep 5-6 inch oven-proof dish, my dutch baby rose high and ended up thicker in the center rather than flat. The inside was of thick dense consistency, sort-of cheesecake-like. And im happy with just the one egg as it didnt over-power. I'm getting the urge to experiment with this and add a nice cheese to the mixture and make it a savoury type dish you can have for brunch.

After reading all the talk about these "pancakes" not turning out right, when in fact that's how they were supposed to be, I had to give them a try. But, I had the advantage of knowing that is how they should be. It was so much fun to watch! The cake rose so high in the oven and then as soon as I took it out, it collapsed in the middle. The crunchy sides stood higher than the middle, which was almost completely flat. I served mine with maple syrup and a sqeeze of lime and it was wonderful. I will be fixing these again because I am imagining the sunken center being filled with berries and then sprinkled with powdered sugar for a beautiful brunch!

This is my breakfast of choice in one of my favorite resturants!I usually have to drive 45 minutes for one of these, but no more. It is served with fresh strawberies ,blueberries, bananas, strawberry syrup and whipped cream in one version. The other is served with veggies and cheese filling the center and a little sour cream on the side. I never thought that it would be so easy to make. I had mine with fresh strawberies and alittle strawberry jam. Fantasic!!!
