Christmas Mincemeat Squares

Because of the whole wheat flour, I've always felt these squares were somewhat healthy. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but I definitely can say they're delicious, and perfect for any holiday goodie platter.

Ingredients

Directions

    Preheat oven to 375F; grease a 13x9 pan and set aside.
  2. 2
    In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, sugar and baking soda.
  3. 3
    Stir in melted butter and mix together until mixture appears crumbly.
  4. 4
    Firmly pat half the crumb mixture into prepared pan, then cover evenly with mincemeat.
  5. 5
    Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture over mincemeat and pat lightly.
  6. 6
    Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until squares appear golden brown.
  7. 7
    Cool before cutting into squares.

I made these over Xmas and they were a great success. Instead of the usual mincemeat square with a pastry base (quite stodgy), these were more like a flapjack with a thin mincemeat layer; sweet, chewy, delicious. Thanks

    I usually make a mincemeat pie for my DH for Christmas, but I thought I would give this recipe a try this year. I personally don't care for mincemeat, but hubby said I had to make this instead of pies from now on. Great easy to follow recipe.

    Thank you for the recipe. My husband loves those squares, he says that it is better than date squares.

    Very good recipe. I reduced the sugar to only 1/4 cup because the mincemeat filling was extremely sweet.
