This is my foolproof way of getting perfect "every grain separate" rice, every time!

SERVES 6 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice (I like Basmati, or Persian)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 dash salt

Directions

  1. 1
Put rice in a micro-safe bowl.
  2. 2
    Add water.
  3. 3
    Swirl for 2 seconds.
  4. 4
    Add salt.
  5. 5
    Swirl again.
  6. 6
Cover with vented plastic wrap or a loose plastic cover.
  7. 7
Nuke on high for 12 minutes.
  8. 8
    Let rest for 5 minutes.
  9. 9
Dump rice into a strainer and rinse under cold water.
  10. 10
Place in micro-safe serving dish (or back in the rinsed out bowl), add seasonings to taste (onion soup mix, salt and pepper, hot chilles, whatever you like in your rice) and heat on medium for 5 minutes until it reaches desired serving temperature.
  11. 11
If the rice is going to be part of a salad, you can use it straight away.
  12. 12
This makes perfect,"every grain separate" rice, every time!

this is a winner! i nuke it for 13 minutes and don't reheat it since i put it on the blech friday night. the only problem is that the water always overflows out leaving a mess in the microwave but it's a small price to pay.

Oh my goodness Thank you sooooo much for this life saving recipe!! I have the WORST luck with making rice, which is sad because I am from the south (and everyone knows how much rice they eat in Louisiana!) This worked perfectly, and I will be cooking rice like this from now on. Thank you thank you thank you!!

I think microwave recipes are difficult due to the power levels of different units and, unfortunately, this did not work for me! Aside from using Campbell's new Spicy Thai Lemongrass Broth as my liquid, I followed the instructions. After 12 minutes on high, the liquid had evaporated but the rice (to borrow Gay's description) was still "toothy" with dried out clumps in it. Needless to say, I pitched it!

This is perfect rice made easy, move over Uncle Ben. I used chicken broth instead of water and it was perfect. I'm horrible at making rice and usually I just get a big lump of mushy stuff when I try and make it. This is the only way I can make rice and have my family actually eat it. I used regular white rice.
