French Toast Waffles

Recipe #38433 | 9 min | 5 min prep | add private note

By: Carol in Oregon 2
Aug 26, 2002

This recipe was prepared for us in a Bed & Breakfast back east. It's simple, no spill-overs from batter and a breeze to clean up.

SERVES 2 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

  • 4-6 slices thick-sliced bread (I use 'Texas Toast' bread)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Directions

  1. 1
    Preheat waffle iron.
  2. 2
Allow 2 to 3 slices of bread per serving.
  3. 3
Trim bread, if necessary, to fit your waffle iron.
  4. 4
Beat the eggs, milk, butter, vanilla and cinnamon in a shallow bowl or pie plate.
  5. 5
Dip bread in egg mixture, coating both sides.
  6. 6
Cook in hot waffle iron until golden brown.
  7. 7
Watch closely so it doesn't get too brown-- it doesn't have to cook as long as waffles do.
  8. 8
    Serve with desired toppings.

I went to make this again this morning and realized I hadn't reviewed this. We have a housefull of guests this morning so I'm making these. I also love the ease of clean up. These are great and delicious. I always use the texas toast it works great.

What a quick, simple way to make french toast! I used thick sliced cinnamon raisin bread and still added cinnamon to the batter. The best part was the clean up being so easy!

These are great. I used a whole loaf of texas toast (16 slices) and quadrupled the recipe. I froze the rest and pop them into the toaster oven for a quick and delicious breakfast. Thanks for the great recipe.

So easy that it was made by my 13 year old grandson for the second time today - under my supervision, of course! We used whole wheat Texas Toast, included the cinnamon. The first time, we served it with pure Canadian maple syrup; today, we served with my Blueberry Sauce (#78222) and took a photo. A tip that I passed on to him (and now to you) is to mix the cinnamon in the vanilla before adding to the egg mixture - it will blend much better. Thanx Carol!
