Easy Kulfi (Ice Cream Without an Ice Cream Freezer!)

Recipe #36229 | ½ day | ½ day prep | add private note

By: spatchcock
Aug 5, 2002

Someone was asking about kulfi on the boards awhile back; I got interested and made some myself! Found this online. It's easy and it tastes great--and the best part is that NO ice cream freezer is needed! (prep time is freezing time). It's also very cheap---I could imagine any college kid with a fridge/freezer in his dorm could make this as well! Enjoy!

SERVES 8 -10 (change servings and units)

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
In a large bowl, stir together well the evaporated milk, condensed milk, cream, and optional other flavor.
  2. 2
Pour into popsicle molds, Indian stainless steel kulfi molds, or even a small bowl.
  3. 3
    Freeze overnight.
  4. 4
Remove from the molds by resting their bottoms very briefly in warm to hot water (if you do this for too long you'll have a gooey mess!).

Delicious! What a great dessert to serve after a rich and spicy Indian dinner. And, it can't get any easier! I followed recipe exactly, used small bowl, and added a tiny bit of ground cinnamon. It is very rich so had leftovers which I plan to serve over fresh fruit this week. Thank you for a great recipe!

I didn't doctor up this recipe, made as written. The overall flavor was nice, though this froze solid hard, unlike regular icecream, and still after letting this sit for abit on the countertop, this had an icy texture, crunchy, crystalized(sp). I served this with an Indian Cuisine Crock Pot Chicken Vindaloo and Indian Spiced Rice

I used grated chocolate in this recipe and just poured it all into a bowl to freeze. Very yummy!
