A nice modernized version of the old classic shrimp cocktail. Watch 'em disappear!

SERVES 4 , 1 batch (change servings and units)

Ingredients

For the rub

For the shrimp

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (give or take)
  • 2 lbs medium shrimp, peeled and deveined (U-25s ( I buy them peeled and deveined)

Directions

  1. 1
In a 1 gal plastic food bag place shrimp and olive oil, toss to coat, sprinkle enough rub to lightly coat the shrimp.
  2. 2
The bag should look dark red.
  3. 3
Refrigerate for 1-4 hrs, the longer you wait the hotter they'll be.
  4. 4
Light the grill and while it's heating place shrimp on skewers.
  5. 5
When coals are very hot, clean the area that the shrimp will be on and rub with a bit of canola oil on a rag (use a mitt please).
  6. 6
Immediately place shrimp on greased grill for 2-3 minutes, turn and cook an additional 2-3 minutes.
  7. 7
Remove from skewers and serve hot.
  8. 8
    No dipping sauce required.
  9. 9
This rub works well on chicken wings too!

Too spiced. It wasn't really enjoyable, just like an explosion of poorly mixed flavors. I like flavored meat/fish/chicken but this was over the top. I thought that I confused Tablespoon and teaspoon but... I did not. Won't make this again.

One word for these puppies...TASTY!! This is the first time I grilled shrimp, and it will definitely not be the last. Thanks so much for this wonderful recipe. I think I will add some cayenne to spice it up next time, like one review mentioned. Thanks for posting!!

I found nothing in the ingredients to make this dish spicy or hot as predicted in the instructions. I let them marinate all day (about 7 hours). Tasted the marinade, no heat! So I added about 2 teaspoons of cayenne (it could have used even more IMO) These were a GIANT HIT. I used a grill basket that I just sat on a plate in the middle of the table and had cocktail forks on the side.

Excellent! I only marinated for about an hour and the flavor was soooo good. I can't wait to try them again, letting them marinate for longer. I grilled these in a grill pan, so it was even quicker. Thanks for sharing.
