This was a different way for us to enjoy lentils. My husband thought it was a bit overly sweet for him but said he liked the concept. I didn't have a problem with it at all. So, I will do it again but with a bit less syrup. Made for Vegetarian Swap.

Sadly I only had enough maple syrup to make half the recipe. It was delicious! I used mixed lentils instead of brown since that was what I had on hand. It absorbed all the cooking liquid so I substituted vegetable broth for the reserved liquid. Made for Veg'n Swap #3.

Yummy dish! I did mess with it a tad but the barbecue flavor was the main thing here and it works so well with the lentils... why didn't I ever think of it before? I cut the time and used drained and rinsed canned lentils. Just mixed it all (with a little crushed red pepper flakes) and baked. Also, I didn't have maple syrup but didn't want that to stop me from trying this recipe, so used agave nectar instead.

This dish was good. A little too sweet for our taste so next time I will use half the amount of maple syrup and maybe add some hot sauce. I think I will also cover the dish before baking as the lentils were a little crunchy.
